Do I really need a lawyer?

How long does divorce take?
In Australia, you need to be separated for 12 months before filing for divorce. The actual divorce process usually takes another couple of months. We'll help you understand each step so nothing catches you by surprise.

Will I have to go to court?
Probably not. Most of our clients never set foot in a courtroom. If you don't have children under 18, you likely won't need to attend court for the divorce itself. High conflict matters do tend to go to court, but we’ll let you know if we think your matter is one of these.

That is a tough question! There are lots of awards and directories, but at the end of the day you should choose the family law lawyer who you think understands your case and has capacity to take you on. It’s important that you feel you can trust your lawyer.

Do I have to go to court to get divorced or custody orders?
Most matters won’t go to court. Even if you can’t agree with your ex now, we can normally reach an agreement by working with them or their lawyers. For some matters, no agreement can be reached and court will be necessary.

We’ll always give you a quote up front. We also assist with legal aid grants and financial aid through JustFund.
